Setting
The two of you meet with mediators Joanne Naiman and Genna Rosten Margolis in a comfortable, relaxed office setting for a series of confidential conversations.
Length and Number of Sessions
Sessions are usually between one and two hours. The number of sessions varies with the complexity of the issues, but successful agreements are generally reached in 4 to 8 sessions.
Cost
We charge an hourly rate, payable at the end of each session. There is only one fee for both
of you and no retainer. This is unlike a litigated divorce, in which a couple pays two attorneys'
fees and two retainers. If you choose to have us draft a separation agreement, there is an
additional charge.
Goals
We help the two of you reach an agreement to divide your finances equitably and determine solutions for your family that are fair and practical.
As neutral mediators, we don't tell you what to do or give legal advice. But we can inform you
of New York State divorce law, including child support. We are also skilled at recognizing legal issues unique to your situation that you and your partner will need to resolve. We can also
draft your legal separation agreement.
Our goal is to guide you quickly toward an agreement that you both feel is fair and workable. Whenever possible, we encourage you to work together between sessions, which speeds the process and saves you money. Mediation is voluntary; you may stop at any time or take a
break without incurring additional expenses.
