According to a recent article in the New York Times there is a “gray divorce revolution.” In fact, the article states that the divorce rate among people 50 and older has doubled since 1990. In our divorce mediation practice, we see many couples who are over 50 divorcing. A parenting plan is no longer necessary – but there are many other issues specific to a “gray divorce” that Ray Ban outlet need to be addressed in mediation:
- Did one spouse stay home to raise the children and has less ability to enter the workplace?
- As retirement age nears, when can each spouse receive his or her pension?
- How much will each person receive in social security per month?
- How many years does the spouse with the higher income plan on working?
As mediators, we help make the gray divorce as pain-free as possible, so that once a marriage is over, each person sees a silver lining in their golden years.
